This year’s casino bill, SB 551, has seen some changes in recent weeks. While the bill, sponsored by Sen. Lou D’Allesandro, originally specified that the casino in question would be located at Rockingham Park in Salem, NH, an amended version now calls for an open bidding process to determine the best location and operator for the facility.

Supporters of the bill argue that casino gambling could provide much-needed revenue, keeping entertainment dollars in NH that are otherwise being spent at facilities in Maine and Massachusetts.

Opponents counter that legal gambling comes with a host of social problems that will place an additional burden on state resources, citing the dangers of addiction and increased crime.

The LFDA asked about the original text of SB 551 earlier this year, and found that 59% of participants did not support a proposal specific to Rockingham Park. However, a total of 64% of those responding did express support for casino gambling in general – just not necessarily in Salem. Click here to see the results.

...is this the only industry for the people. Casinos don't leave the doors open 24/7 so people can come win. There is no entertainment when people go to the casino using money that should go towards paying bills, that just isn't quite enough. So you think, going to the to let the few dollars work for you before you have to pay some corporation to keep your lights on, roof over your families head or just get thru another month. So what you all call a gambling problem is not people have a money problem when casinos use computers for slots that do only one thing. That is what man program it to do. So unless casinos stop changing the amt needed to hit bonuses ex: a 50/1=.50 bet sometimes won't hit bonus unless you are playing 50/5 = $2.50. Make it law to have clocks. Last if someone leaves money on a machine it's finders keepers not throw the person out because the casino feel it belong to them. If so how do the casino count that extra money . Let the one who find it hold on to it for one hour if some one complain and know what machine give it back. Some days that's the only "LUCK" a person has. This applies to amt over $100 and must be reported didn't say turned in.
