Senate will vote on funds for local roads, bridges
This Thursday, March 23, the state Senate will vote on a bill to send $36.8 million to local road and bridge projects.
The funds are intended to come from a projected surplus from the fiscal year ending in June.
Gov. Chris Sununu argued for the bill since his inauguration.
“This is not money dedicated to the needs and wishes of state government, but rather resources directed through existing formulas to directly help local taxpayers,” said Sununu. “I’m proud to stand with the legislature and make a real difference for local communities.”
Bill opponents, however, believe that this year’s budget surplus may not match projections. They argue that any large spending items should be included in the overall state budget bill, which takes into account many competing spending priorities.
