"I'm against an assault weapons ban. I'm a proud gun owner, but the status quo is not working. We need to reform laws such as implementing universal background checks and raising the age to buy certain semi-automatic weapons to the same age to buy a handgun. Combined with funding mental health, this would be a good start."

"While extreme environmentalists have waged a war on American domestic production of energy, they are ignoring the fact that global demand for natural gas is expected to increase by 40% by 2050. Who supplies that demand matters. America must increase energy exports to displace dirtier Russian energy in the market and provide our allies with affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy. Similarly, an abrupt halt to domestic crude oil production would jeopardize energy independence, increase reliance on crude oil imports from foreign adversaries, and negatively impact the economy.
"Banishing gas production in the U.S. and stopping crude oil exports won’t eliminate carbon emissions, because those greenhouse gases will be produced somewhere else. So will the jobs, economic growth, and geopolitical leverage.
"We should also be looking at ways to promote carbon capture alongside the use of natural gas by expanding its use in power generation and in industrial processes. Additionally, we need to develop infrastructure for CO2 storage and promote the utilization of captured CO2 into useful products such as building materials."

We must also build, at the federal level, on successes like Florida’s 'Red Flag' law, that allow police officers and relatives to petition to temporarily confiscate firearms from individuals who may pose a danger."

"Why does an MRI cost $1,080 in the U.S. and $280 in France? Health care costs in the most successful democracy to have ever existed should be the lowest in the world. What gets lost in the uproar about efforts to bring health insurance to more people is that health insurance is not healthcare. More than a decade after the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, there are still millions of people who cannot access or afford quality healthcare. They may have received expensive insurance, but they do not have the financial resources to pay for treatment. Having government agencies make decisions on the kind of care an individual should receive is not the answer. "I am continuously amazed by innovations in security and surveillance technology as a member of the House committees on both Homeland Security and Intelligence. We have access to existing sensor technology that can determine the difference between a jack rabbit and a human moving across the desert. We have drones that can track individuals anywhere on the planet. But when it comes to the border, we’ve allowed an outdated, physical barrier to dominate the national dialogue and stifle innovation.
"A one-size-fits-all approach will not solve our complex border problems. While a physical barrier can be effective in urban areas, each sector of the border faces unique geographical, cultural and technological challenges that would be best addressed with a flexible, sector-by-sector approach that empowers the Border Patrol agents on the ground with the resources they need."

Moscow’s unchecked ambition has been made plain by its actions thus far; if nothing is done to stop them now, their ambitions will grow putting our security and that of our allies on an ever more precarious footing.
