Should NH add an income tax on earned income?
"this should be evaluated as one of the revenue possibilities. My hope is that with the new legislature, cooler heads and new sets of eyes can examine both Revenues and Expenses. I think there should be a Budget Summit do evaluate the following. What are the functions of each department and how much does it cost to carry them out. What are our current revenues, what are our potential sources of revenues. Only with a thorough examination could I really answer this. Two things I can tell you, I am against any cuts which downshift further expenses to property taxes (up 50% statewide since 2002) AND I believe if we focus on developing policies which encourage green energy jobs, advanced manufacturing, medical technologies, and medical services we can grow NH's economy with local, sustainable, living wage jobs which will make us more prosperous, and as history has sho2n us, when NH's economy is growing, revenues to the state grow!"

Should NH continue to base statewide assessments on Common Core standards?
"As a retired Educator I can see pros and cons. I'm concerned about loss of control of the curriculum to those with social and political agendas. I think a diversity of opinions is a good thing. I'm also concerned about the ability of large textbook companies to control or influence that curriculum. However, I also have concerns with 'local' control which would allow curriculum decisions about, for example, science education, to be made by people with no training or understanding of subject matter. In Deerfield 2 years ago, one of my opponents ran for school board and advocated not teaching evolution or climate change."

"I support policies which would help develop high skill-living wage job growth in areas such as sustainable energy, advanced manufacturing, medical technologies and medical services. If we also develop cutting edge workforce development programs, we can create many better-than-minimum-wage jobs, and yes we should increase the minimum wage, too."

Should NH continue to administer statewide standards-based student assessments?
"Statewide assessments are one way of comparing schools. There are other ways to measure learning, and using these assessments should be one way of several to assess students and schools."

Should NH restrict further wind power development?
"I believe the current site evaluation committee and that process should be the continued framework for deciding on energy infrastructure projects on a case by case basis. I think the legislature should give the SEC guidance on how they should evaluate new projects, and my personal opinion is one of the guidelines should be to encourage distributed energy generation in NH. That said, the environmental impact of EACH individual project should be assessed. My background is energy policy. I've served as the states Energy Conservation Coordinator for 7 years, ran a cutting edge energy education associates degree program, I was appointed to the State's Energy Efficiency/Sustainable energy board where I served for 4 years, and I have been on the Board of the NH Sustainable Energy Association since 2006."
