Should NH pursue expanded commuter rail?

"In general, I would encourage more public transportation which could include commuter rail because I believe it could help us retain young workers and attract new businesses. However I would need to know a lot more about specific proposals before I could support or oppose them."

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"New Hampshire needs to move away from our reliance on local property taxes and the downshifting of state obligations to local property taxpayers. Perhaps we should consider an independent commission to review our tax system and identify a fairer, more balanced method for raising state revenue. Any new solution must include a reduction of our reliance on property taxes."

Is police brutality an issue in NH?

"With this and many other issues that will come before the NH Legislature, I would listen to testimony, and seek input from constituents to determine if state government should become more involved."

Should New Hampshire continue to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which requires utilities to purchase allowances for every ton of carbon they emit?

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2018

"Our current legislators opposed a plan for paid family medical leave insurance. This voluntary program would have provided modest financial support for employees who currently can't afford to take time off from work to care for sick family members. I testified in favor of this bill because as a home care administrator, I saw many of our clients and our staff who desperately needed time off to care for a sick or frail family member. I shared the story of an agency caregiver who said she would happily contribute to a program that would provide her with support so she could care for her aging father."

Should NH continue to administer statewide standards-based student assessments?

"I am comfortable with some level of statewide student assessments but I believe we have become too 'test-oriented', leaving teachers with less and less time for creative, individualized learning."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"I believe we can protect hunters, sports enthusiasts and those concerned with personal protection and also increase public safety. I would support legislation that limits access to military-style weapons, closes purchasing loopholes and allows local communities to determine a position regarding gun-free zones. I will also seek methods to identify at-risk individuals, providing them needed support and mental health services before they harm themselves or others. I have been discussing public safety frequently in my rural district during this campaign season. I am encouraged by how many people, including members from all political parties, the NRA, hunters and sports enthusiasts, believe we can find a balance between the interests of those that own guns and our shared concern for public safety."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should New Hampshire allocate tax revenues for private and home schooling costs?

"I oppose allocating tax revenues for private and/or home schooling costs."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should NH impose strict residency requirements on registering to vote?

"NH legislators are faced with 800-1000 new bills every year and an important job of a legislator is to determine if there is a need for each of these new bills. No one wants to create new bureaucracy that addresses a problem that does not exist. New Hampshire's current election laws are adequate. I do not see a need to change residency requirements."
