"I won't take pledges beyond the Pledge of Allegiance. The person taking the tax pledge is either prepared to break it in the even of an catastrophe requiring a massive increase in public funds, or is too unimaginative to realize that possibility, however remote. Over the years, I've had several columns published in this and other papers, arguing against an income tax. For a state as dependent as we are retailing, a sales tax would be lunacy. If that's not a firm enough commitment...tough."

"How people spend their own money is no one else's business. I'd repeal all laws against gambling. However, casinos should be treated like any other business - no state monopoly, and no special taxes. Let the free market determine the number of casinos. State-granted monopolies are a formula for corruption."

"Our children and grandchildren live in Freedom and Hollis. I want them, and other young people, to have the option to stay and build their futures here. Yet New Hampshire's aging rapidly, and Carroll County's ground zero. This demographic tidal wave, and the blinkered vision of both parties, are delivering a downward spiral of a declining economy, diminishing opportunities, and the departure of more and more young people. Neither party is seizing this opportunity to break away from stale, irrelevant arguments and ideas. I want to help change direction."
