Position on Issues

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"State funds should not be used to support private school, especially when public school funding needs to increase."

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"I echo the decision of a Georgia judge, who recently said 'Women are not some piece of collectively owned community property the disposition of which is decided by majority vote. Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted, not-yet-viable fetus to term violates her constitutional rights to liberty and privacy, even taking into consideration whatever bundle of rights the not-yet-viable fetus may have.'"

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"I echo the decision of a Georgia judge, who recently said 'Women are not some piece of collectively owned community property the disposition of which is decided by majority vote. Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted, not-yet-viable fetus to term violates her constitutional rights to liberty and privacy, even taking into consideration whatever bundle of rights the not-yet-viable fetus may have.'"

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"New Hampshire needs to find ways to pay more for citizen services, especially our public schools. The state lost the school funding lawsuit, and will eventually need to comply."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"A sales tax is a regressive tax, because people pay based on their needs, not their ability to pay."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"The state needs to pay more for education. New Hampshire businesses are direct beneficiaries of an educated workforce. They should be willing to pay some of the cost."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire add a tax on capital gains?

"The state needs more revenue. A capital gains tax should have a threshold, so that retirees or others with limited income are not included. A wealthy investor can afford to pay, especially because we don't have a general income tax, like Massachusetts."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire government do more to address climate change?

"We need to increase our renewable energy. Not only does it help with global warming, but distributed electric generation makes our grid more secure and reduces the high cost of electricity in New Hampshire."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?

"Voting is a basic right. If someone votes illegally, they should be charged with a crime, but that happens very rarely, especially because the crime isn't worth the penalty."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"Our state needs more housing desperately - as much as 30,000 more units. Without it, our young people will choose to live somewhere else where they can afford housing, draining our workforce. This is a critical issue for the economic health of New Hampshire."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support legislation to expand the net energy metering system capacity cap from 1 MW to 5 MW for all residential and commercial customers in New Hampshire?

"We need more solar power. Solar panel efficiency and power output continues to increase, so capacity should also increase."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire guarantee the right to access abortion before 24 weeks?

"I echo the decision of a Georgia judge, who recently said 'Women are not some piece of collectively owned community property the disposition of which is decided by majority vote. Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted, not-yet-viable fetus to term violates her constitutional rights to liberty and privacy, even taking into consideration whatever bundle of rights the not-yet-viable fetus may have.'"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should the state increase funding for child care providers?

"The cost of child care makes it difficult for a parent to return to the workforce. Just like housing, this cost will drive away younger workers the state needs. Look at all the help wanted signs to see how important these issues are."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support New Hampshire’s current system of public school funding, with about two-thirds of total funding coming from local property taxes?

"The state lost the school funding lawsuit, and will eventually need to pay more. Right now, about 70% of all government in New Hampshire - municipal, county, school, and state - is funded through property tax. This is the highest percentage of any state, and is grossly unfair, especially to retirees whose income declines but whose home value increases."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by allowing home-growing and private use without sales?

"We are late to the marijuana party. All our surrounding states have already legalized. We need a system to make whatever we do economically attractive, or our citizens will continue to do what they do now - shop in the other states."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by licensing growers and private retail locations?

"We are late to the marijuana party. All our surrounding states have already legalized. We need a system to make whatever we do economically attractive, or our citizens will continue to do what they do now - shop in the other states."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by establishing state-run cannabis stores?

"We are late to the marijuana party. All our surrounding states have already legalized. We need a system to make whatever we do economically attractive, or our citizens will continue to do what they do now - shop in the other states."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire raise the minimum wage?

"This is almost unnecessary, because the marketplace has already raised wages well beyond $7.65. But the state should show we recognize the value of work, and we should not allow anyone whose options are limited to be forced to work for our current minimum wage."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire add legal protections for residents of other states who travel here for health care related to abortion or gender transition?

"We should be a welcoming place for people whose own states don't recognize their rights."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire repeal the ban on abortion after 24 weeks gestation?

"I echo the decision of a Georgia judge, who recently said 'Women are not some piece of collectively owned community property the disposition of which is decided by majority vote. Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted, not-yet-viable fetus to term violates her constitutional rights to liberty and privacy, even taking into consideration whatever bundle of rights the not-yet-viable fetus may have.'"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH require local law enforcement to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement?

"I think it depends on what the federal actions are. An aggressive effort to remove every immigrant possible would not only be unfair to law-abiding, working immigrants, but would hurt the businesses that need those workers."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"We should strengthen our red flag laws. It's a difficult process, but needed to keep some guns from being used against others."
