"I voted against this nomination last Summer because I felt the balance on the court would have tipped very heavily in one direction. I believe we need a balance on our courts. In that way, we get the best and fairest decisions possible. In general, I do not think political activists out of the mainstream should be on our Supreme Court."

Are you open to approving no-bid state contracts?

"I believe whenever contracts can be put out to bid, they should. There are exceptions (aren't there always?) For example, if the contract is very small, the effort on the part of the Agency does not make it worth it. Sometimes, as hard as this is to believe, the Federal Government mandates to whom the contract goes. Sometimes, there is an emergency which makes bidding impossible. And, there are a couple more reasons. Generally, I am against No Bid Contracts."
