Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?
"We should not increase funding for EFAs until the state lives up to its Constitutional obligation to fund the public schools. The EFA program needs accountability and oversight. At present there is very little. There should be financial accountability, educational accountability and civil rights accountability."For| Read My Position

Do you support the state law that bans teaching certain concepts, such as the idea that people may be "inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously"?
"This question is not well worded. This question is based on a law that is poorly worded. Teachers do not teach that anyone is inherently racist or sexist. It is reasonable to contend that the real purpose of the divisive concepts bill is to discourage teachers from teaching the history of our country and promoting the discussion of important social issues with our students. The entirety of the bill is so vauge that teachers are uncertain if they will face the sanction of losing their teaching license if they have honest classroom discussions on these important topics. We should trust our teachers and treat them like allies. It is their job to help our children understand history and have quality discussions on the important issues of the day."

Should New Hampshire add a tax credit for businesses that contribute to student loan repayment for employees?
"A law similar to this was passed in the COVID relief package from the federal government. Instead of a tax credit, employers could make a student loan payments for their workers, and the amount paid would not be taxed as income, reducing the tax burden of the both the employer and the employee. It seems like we have a good solution to this already in place at the federal level."

Should New Hampshire government do more to address climate change?
"Climate change is real and the effects are already being felt. They will become much more severe within the next 20 years. NH is not doing its part to deal with climate change. We should significantly increase our efforts to promote solar energy, energy efficiency and conservation measures. We only produce 1% of our electricity from solar energy while all three of our bordering states produce 15-20% of their electricity from solar energy. Energy efficiency and conservation are important because every kilowatt we can save is one less that we have to produce."For| Read My Position

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?
"Voting is a fundamental right, and is the right upon which our other rights rests. We should not create laws taking away the right to vote from people who are legally entitled to vote. There is absolutely no evidence of voter fraud in New Hampshire and restrictions on the right to vote are not called for."Against| Read My Position

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?
"The state should invest in housing. It is essential to the future of our state's economy. We need more workforce housing and senior housing. If communities are interested in building more housing, then the state should provide financial assistance with infrastructure support. There are multiple solutions to the housing crisis and no single solution will be enough. We need to work hard to develop a comprehensive plan."For| Read My Position

Should New Hampshire extend the renewable portfolio standard past 2025, requiring public utilities to obtain more than 25% of electricity from renewable energy sources?
"We should promote renewable energy. Renewable energy is cheaper than fossil fuels and will help us reduce the amount of CO2 we put into the atmosphere each year. This will help us reduce the impacts of climate change and ensure that New Hampshire remains a healthy place to live. New Hampshire is the only New England state that does not have a robust renewable energy program. We have the highest electricity rates in New England because there is no competition in the energy sector and we so reliant upon fossil fuels for electricity production."

Should the state increase funding for child care providers?
"We need to build up the child care system in NH. This would include helping existing child care providers with their systems and infrastructure, working to increase places where child care is provided (such as on-site child care for employers where this would be feasible), increase assistance to educational programs for people who are interested in this field, increase wages for the professionals in this field, and increase access to the existing child care scholarship program."For| Read My Position

Do you support the option of mail-in ballots for all voters, not just absentees?
"Voting is a fundamental right and we should work to make our voting system one that all eligible voters can easily participate in. Many people have lives that do not permit them to attend in-person voting on one specific day from 7 am to 7 pm. There are many valid and legitimate reasons it is not possible for many people to vote in person - reasons that are currently not listed as acceptable for voting by absentee ballot. Voting by absentee ballot is safe and secure and we should allow it to be used by everyone."

Do you support New Hampshire’s current system of public school funding, with about two-thirds of total funding coming from local property taxes?
"The State of NH has a Constitutional duty to fund the public schools. Under the Claremont decision, it is the state's job to provide funding for the public schools, not the local towns. We should increase state funding for public schools. This would guarantee every child the opportunity for a good education and would result in local property tax relief. We should overturn the repeal of the Interest and Dividends Tax which would provide a significant source of funding to the state that could be used for public school funding (on the order of $140 million per year)."For| Read My Position

Should the state permanently increase how much tax revenue it shares with towns and cities every year, beyond public school funding?
"The state government needs to be a reliable partner to the towns when it comes to municipal aid. Giving the towns a one-time increase (which is likely to then be cut in future years) is not the same thing as providing dependable funding from year to year. The question asks if there should be a permanent increase. The state does need to provide more funds to the towns and cities and just as importantly, need to be consistent in its assistance to the towns, so that towns can effectively plan their expenses."

Do you support the gradual phase-out of the Interests and Dividends tax?
"Half of the tax reduction from eliminating the Interest and Dividens tax will go to the top 1% of income earners in NH. That half of the tax reduction, which will go to the very wealthy, will cost the State of NH about $60 million a year in lost revenue. If we are going to reduce taxes, it would be better to provide a property tax break to people who are being taxed out of the homes they have lived in for decades because of high property taxes."
