Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"I am totally against this program. The great majority of the money goes to people who already are sending their children to private or religious schools. Lower income people would be hard pressed to find a school they could send their children to with the "adequate funding" the state provides. There is very little accountability to where the money goes, and lastly, it deprives our public schools of state funding."

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"Roe got it right. The state should affirm a commitment to women's right to decide."

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"Roe got it right. The state should affirm a commitment to women's right to decide."

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"I'm not fond of income taxes, but unlike our main form of taxation (property tax) it is at least based upon an ability to pay. We should have an 'adult conversation' on how we fund the state, especially education."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"This would add an undue burden, especially on the working class."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"The business community has enjoyed several tax decreases during the Sununu administration at a time when local communities are forced to dig deeper to fund public education. I support business, especially small locally owned, but we need to truly adequately fund education."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire add a tax on capital gains?

"Yes, for the same reasons as above."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire government do more to address climate change?

"Yes, absolutely. We should have more public charging stations available, especially in the north country, this would also help our tourism industry as more out of state people are buying electric cars and want to be sure they can easily do so. We should actively encourage more wind and solar to reduce emissions."

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?

"Our current system is more than adequate, There is very little evidence of voter fraud in NH according to the secretary of state."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"I am a member of my town's local conservation commission and I think we do need to make some modifications to expand housing while impacting our open space as little as possible. I am in favor of cluster development which would allow that."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support legislation to expand the net energy metering system capacity cap from 1 MW to 5 MW for all residential and commercial customers in New Hampshire?

"Yes. My wife and I pit up solar panels almost 10 years ago and have enjoyed much reduced electric bills. I hear from many people who want solar but are frustrated either by slow power company hook-up or the cap on net metering."

Should New Hampshire guarantee the right to access abortion before 24 weeks?

"Roe got it right. The state should affirm a commitment to women's right to decide."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should the state increase funding for child care providers?

"Again, our young people are struggling with low wages and high living costs. Families with young children are really impacted as childcare costs can eliminate the benefits of both spouses working."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support New Hampshire’s current system of public school funding, with about two-thirds of total funding coming from local property taxes?

"Our state has the lowest state aid to education in the country, which should be an embarrassment to us all. Our local communities have been forced to come up with an increasing share of the costs of education. We should be proud of the good work our public schools do but we should be appalled at the state's lack of responsibility."

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by allowing home-growing and private use without sales?

"This might help to fund our education funding responsibilities."

"Yes, how do we expect our young people to stay in NH with our sky-high rents and home prices?"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

"Yes. Period."

"That is the Federal government's responsibility."

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"I am for sensible gun safety laws like universal background checks and requirements that firearms should be secured in the home to protect children."
