Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"I am committed to avoiding increased property taxes and ensuring our tax dollars are used effectively. That's why I will vote to protect funding for public schools, ensuring our property tax dollars support our public education system rather than subsidizing private or parochial schooling for other people's children."

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"I am against a broad-based sales tax as it has many variables that impact its pros and cons. Is it fair? How much revenue would it generate? What would that revenue be used for? Would it offset other taxes? Who would bear the burden? Could it be structured to focus on 'tourist-related' activities, for instance, to lessen the impact on residents? These are just some of the questions that need thorough research and consideration before moving forward with any proposal for a broad-based sales tax."

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"I'm open to the idea of lowering business taxes, but rather than a blanket reduction, I believe we should focus on incentives. For example, offering tax breaks for energy-saving installations could create a win-win situation, benefiting both businesses and the environment."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire add a tax on capital gains?

"I don't believe a blanket tax on capital gains is the right way to generate additional state revenue. Instead, we should be encouraging citizens to grow their investments for future financial security, not penalizing them. However, I do support implementing a cap on the amount of capital gains that can be earned without taxation."

"I want to empower people to vote, not discourage it."

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"Completely removing zoning barriers at the state level is not an effective solution to address housing needs. Every town and city has unique requirements and infrastructure challenges. A more tailored approach is necessary, one that explores and incentivizes local governments to study and address their zoning barriers in ways that best suit their communities."

Should the state increase funding for child care providers?

"I believe that economically and socially strong communities are built on a foundation of health, education, and the well-being of our children. Those who care for, nurture, teach, and develop future generations deserve our full support and fair compensation. This not only benefits our children but also has a broader impact on addressing workforce shortages and enhancing the spending power of our citizens."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support New Hampshire’s current system of public school funding, with about two-thirds of total funding coming from local property taxes?

"My bottom line is to ensure a world-class education for all our children. Their education, social and cultural development, and physical health are critical to the state's future economic stability and civility."
