Position on Issues

"Former legislatures in New Hampshire ... have tried to allow guns to be carried concealed in the Statehouse, in parks and at schools. This stuff is not right and I don't want to see that type of thinking continue."

"I want to help strengthen our economy by getting spending under control," Whitmyer said. "I want to be an advocate for education and to stand up for veterans. I want to see if there are ways to decrease the cost of health care, and I am a firm supporter of women's and children's rights."

Whitmyer said he has particularly strong feelings about protecting children with special needs and maintaining good, quality nursing homes for the elderly.

"Former legislatures in New Hampshire have cut funding for colleges, for Planned Parenthood and even for cancer screening programs for women as a result of the Planned Parenthood vote," Whitmyer said. "They have tried to allow guns to be carried concealed in the Statehouse, in parks and at schools. This stuff is not right and I don't want to see that type of thinking continue."

If elected, Whitmyer said his top legislative priorities would be aimed toward education and veterans.

"I think it's shameful the way veterans are treated," he said. "We are cutting their benefits and they are having trouble finding housing. After all they did for this country, we need to take better care of them."
