Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Was NH right to ban hand-held cell phone use while driving?

"Bad driving is the issue, not technology. If someone is left of center it doesn't matter why."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

Does not support an income and/or sales tax. Possible revenue sources: "Legalize and tax recreational drugs"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

Does not support an income and/or sales tax. Possible revenue sources: "Legalize and tax recreational drugs"

NHPTV Voter Guide, 2012

"I would privatize state-owned facilities (e.g. ski resorts) where possible to reduce need for taxes and allow the market to function. Whenever we can privatize, we can improve services while capping costs. A good example of this is school choice: over $16,000 per year per pupil could provide a good private education for all students. Instead it just pays to expand bureaucracies. If education money were spent effectively, technology would drive education costs down. The most important part of New Hampshire's 'revenue structure' is the part that stays with the people who worked for it, not the part spent by the state."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH authorize one or more casinos?

"The state should not pick winners in exchange for campaign contributions. Let the consumers decide what gambling they want."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH continue to base statewide assessments on Common Core standards?

"The adoption of any testing criteria should be decided upon by local school boards."

NHPTV Voter Guide, 2012

"As the NH Dept of Education web site will tell you, we spend over $16,000 per pupil already. More money won't make public schools better (look at Washington D.C. and their 30K per pupil expenditures). Only innovation and choice can improve education."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH decriminalize small amounts of marijuana?

"The possession of small quantities of marijuana should not be a crime."

NHPTV Voter Guide, 2012

"Subsidies for industries must end (I'm thinking of subsidized wood-burning plants, but all subsidies are uneconomic and corrupting). The use of eminent domain for commercial power lines, etc. must stop (and companies that keep lobbying for eminent domain after they have been told 'no' once need to realize that's not going to work!) We need electric power, but it has to be produced in a competitive way, with no regulatory favors for one type of power over another."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH broaden campaign finance disclosure laws?

"Disclosure is fine, but not as a cloak to suppress small groups' speech."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH provide more funding for charter schools?

"Education money should go to the parents, not to bureaucracies. We spend $16,000 per pupil in NH, enough for every student to go to a great school."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Do employees in NH need more legal protections in the workplace?

"Our employment laws are generally adequate as they are."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH add restrictions on welfare recipients?

Regarding drug tests for welfare recipients: "Would cost money and not change a thing. Creating jobs is the way to cut welfare."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH allow the Northern Pass to proceed with some (not all) of the lines buried?

"No eminent domain for private companies. Let the landowners decide, and make companies pay market rate."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH continue to use property taxes instead of a new broad-based tax, such as an income tax?

Does not support an income and/or sales tax. Possible revenue sources: "Legalize and tax recreational drugs"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should New Hampshire continue to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which requires utilities to purchase allowances for every ton of carbon they emit?

"NH should withdraw from RGGI and structure its own energy strategy."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH require car insurance for some or all drivers?

"I oppose legislation that would mandate insurance in order to register a vehicle."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH require labels on some or all genetically modified foods?

"Labeling can be provided by private non-profits... 'GMO' means different things to different people. A lot of 'organic' varieties were created by mutation in reactors..."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH pass right-to-work legislation?

"Right to Work legislation will create many new jobs in NH."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

State role in economic growth

"The state blocks job growth through various anticompetition crony boards (e.g. Health Services Review Board)."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"I oppose any limits on assault weapons."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014
