SB 407 (2024)
Study cost of providing ambulance services
Requires insurers to directly reimburse ambulance service providers "at the usual and customary rate for such services" or at the rate negotiated by the insurer and ambulance service provider.
The Senate rewrote the bill. Under the new bill, insurers must reimburse ambulance service providers at negotiated rates, or "at the rates set by the local government or contracted entity subject to a public process prior to adoption or readoption," or at 325% of the published rate for ambulance services established under Medicare, or according to the participating ambulance provider's billed charges, whichever is the lesser amount.
The House rewrote the bill again. Their version of the bill provides for a statewide ground ambulance cost reporting program and a study by an independent actuarial and accounting expert of the cost of providing ground ambulance services in the state.
A conference committee of representatives and senators agreed on this final House version of the bill.
