HB 569 (2023)
Send property tax revenue to the state, revise low income property tax credits
Summary:
Requires municipalities to collect the Statewide Education Property Tax (SWEPT) and remit the SWEPT in full to the Department of Revenue (DRA) for deposit into the Education Trust Fund, after deducting a 3% municipal processing fee. According to the DRA, under current law each town and city collects SWEPT on behalf of the state and keeps it. This bill also modifies the low income property tax credit program, for example adjusting for inflation.
