HB 1264 (2020)
PFAS "omnibus" bill, combining several bills
Extends the Commission on the Seacoast Cancer Investigation from 2020 to 2022. The Senate amended the legislation to incorporate several bills related to PFAS. In particular, the amended bill establishes maximum contaminant levels for perflourinated compounds (PFCs), as originally written in SB 287. The bill also establishes the per and polyfluoroalkly substances (PFAS) fund and creates a low interest loan program for certain water and waste water systems affected by PFAS contamination (similar to SB 496). The bill then authorizes the Department of Environmental Services to borrow up to $50 million to remediate PFAS contamination in public water sources. Lastly, the amended bill requires insurers to cover perfluoroalkyls (PFAS) and perfluorinated compound (PFC) blood testing (similar to SB 623).
