HB 1111 (2020)
Change regulations to help towns develop broadband
Summary:
Requires a distribution company, electric company, or telephone company replacing an existing pole to complete the work within 90 days of installing the new pole. The deadline is extended to six months for commercial or industrial construction projects expected to take longer than a year. This bill also requires the owner of the pole to notify all other users at least 48 hours prior to removal. The Senate amended the bill to combine a few bills related to local broadband development. For example, the amended bill allows municipalities to group together and form "communications districts" for the purpose of funding communications infrastructure such as broadband internet (similar to SB 457).
